Welcome
to C.A.S.A., Christian Academic Support Association. We give
thanks and praise to God for all that He has done and is
continuing to do in us as we work together, parents and
students, in the very high calling of homeschooling.

Joe and Cheryl Gillaspy began this support
group in the early 1990's in their Camarillo home with only
a handful of families participating from Camarillo Community
Church. C.A.S.A. offered large group homeschool events
including a science fair, history night, a recital and an
annual graduation. Local churches such as Trinity
Presbyterian Church and Camarillo Church of the Nazarene
offered their facilities for us to conduct tutorials in
Latin, algebra, and PE. The co-op situation grew to
over 35 families. We were set on discipling our young men
and women in the Lord, developing fully devoted followers of
Christ.
After
12 years the group obtained a non-profit incorporated status
and became an independent homeschool ministry. C.A.S.A.
now offers more opportunities in events and programs that
enhance the homeschool experience. The vision for C.A.S.A.
expanded to helping homeschool families create a God-honoring and dynamic educational experience. The leadership
team and ministry grew. More tutorials have been added over
the years including biology, chemistry, Spanish and
composition. A high quality weekly e-newsletter
communication helps connect the growing network of homeschool families.
The
Gillaspys resigned as leaders when they completed homeschooling their four children, and Pastor Carl and Maria
Lodico, along with a leadership team, have taken the lead,
navigating the group through the latest growth spurt and
increased organizational efforts. The Gillaspys remain as
advisors, board members, and tutors. |

The most recent developments
are 1) the addition of an organized sports program which
involves the training of young people in basketball skills
and competing in basketball leagues; 2) the creation of an
annual C.A.S.A. yearbook; and 3) a formal music program,
which currently consists of three classical choirs under the
direction of Cheryl Gillaspy.
Dozens
of families have come and gone through the group over the
years, contributing as well as gleaning from what the group
has to offer, leaving their mark, and taking something of
value with them. We value building memories together through
our events and our tutorials have been a tremendous support
to children as they commit to studying diligently. And the
group is growing. To date we minister to over 175 families.
As
volunteers serve one another, the group continues to be
blessed by more and more families committed to not only homeschooling their own children, but in lending support to
other families who are doing the same. This is the Jesus
model for living: serving and being served, celebrating and
being celebrated, loving and being loved. |
